Karima and Richard got married in Lauderdale House in Waterlow Park in Highgate. I had the great pleasure of photographing Karima’s son’s wedding a couple of years back in Sparkford Hall. So it was with great pleasure that I got asked to capture this relaxed and informal wedding in North London.

Karima and her sons arrived to Lauderdale House looking magnificent in a vintage car. I was on hand to document the moment. I had arrived slightly earlier so I could capture Richard meeting and greeting guests. I’m most often booked to capture a wedding on the back of my relaxed documentary wedding photography style. And so it was that I was able to float about the Lauderdale House photographing events as they unfolded. Nothing staged, all natural moments.

I arrived to Lauderdale House to find Richard meeting and greeting guests and looking super dapper. Lauderdale House is a stunning and elegant ancient building. Parts of Lauderdale House date back to 1582 and the main ceremony Room upstairs has ancient exposed timbers. The whole building has a ton of natural light and has access to a pretty terrace that’s perfect for a drinks reception.

I enjoyed seeing the familiar Registrars  who’d come up from Camden Town Hall to officiated this Lauderdale House Wedding. I last worked with them in their local Camden Town Hall at a belter of a wedding that ended up at The Depot N7 in Kings Cross. [Over the years I’ve got to know many of the registrars from Hackney, Marylebone and Islington Town halls.]

After the lovely wedding ceremony everyone piled outside into the glorious sunshine for confetti. There’s a convenient little slope in the ornamental gardens where I organised a fun group picture of the entire wedding party. After that we ran through a few family groups before tucking into drinks and canapes.

The lovely couple were keen to have some portraits taken beside their vintage car. After this little session we all jumped onto Red Double Decker buses to the wedding reception venue, Fredericks in Angel Islington. Fredericks in Camden Passage in Islington is one of my favourite local restaurants and wedding reception venues. The cool restaurant and bar suits weddings of all sizes. I’ve shot weddings here for 10 guests and others for 50 guests. Richard and Karima decided to hire the restaurant in its entirety and filled it to the rafters with friends and family.

Drinks and canapes were served while I floated about the party. During the fabulous meal we had a bunch of speeches, amusing and moving in equal part. An excellent jazz band set up and got the dancing started around 8pm. I love the energy a live band brings to a wedding and all the guests got fully involved.
