If you are planning a South London wedding then Richmond Town Hall is a smashing choice of venue. The Town Hall is a huge iconic building with amazing grounds. The grounds and gardens of Richmond Town hall are quite frankly a bit bonkers. There is a huge marble fountain modelled on the Trevi Fountain alongside a fairy tale bridge that wouldn’t look out of place in Venice! The lawns and terrace of the Richmond Town Hall are perfect for wedding reception drinks and family portraits. Another huge bonus when you choose The Old Town Hall is the River Thames. The Thames is directly behind the building, a super easy walk (even in heels) for some Mr and Mrs portraits.

Are You Getting Married At Richmond Town Hall?

For almost 300 years, Richmond Town Hall has been used for many public and private ceremonies. The Town Hall is an ideal wedding venue for small, intimate wedding ceremonies or large gatherings. My name is John Sanders, and I have been a Richmond Town Hall wedding photographer. It is one of many wedding venues in London that started out as a seat of government. Similar to Islington Town Hall, Richmond Town Hall has a courtroom, council chamber, and Mayor’s parlour that are used for meetings and public gatherings.

When it comes to wedding photography, the Town Hall has many scenic areas inside and out that are ideal for group shots or wedding portraits of the bride and groom. The pub is open so you can have a drink to settle your nerves or plan your wedding ceremony. The beautiful marble staircase is the perfect backdrop for candid shots. Group photos can be taken along the Thames River.

History of Richmond Town Hall

Located in Richmond, England, the Town Hall was built in 1756. The register office was located in the building for many years. Many renovations have been made throughout the facility over the course of several years. An art deco concept was implemented in many areas of the building. As a Richmond wedding photographer, I enjoy getting to know the wedding venues my customers choose for their big day. Many works of art in the Town Hall have a rich and exciting history. The painting of Richmond Castle, for example, was gifted to the Hall in 1941 by Lady Baden-Powell. She was the widow of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts. The well-known painting hangs in the Mayor’s parlour above the fireplace.

While the Town Hall is no longer a seat for the local government, it still plays a vital role in many public functions. Many organizations hold their meetings in the ceremony rooms, and the Richmond Room is a common choice for weddings held on Saturday mornings. Many rooms offer natural light that makes them ideal locations for wedding photography.

Richmond Town Hall Weddings and Events

If you are looking for the right place for your special day, you should consider all of the amenities and features the Richmond Town Hall offers. Smaller rooms are available for private civil ceremonies. The Richmond Town Council continues to meet in the Town Hall’s council chambers. The building was constructed with large meeting areas and small chambers, where officials take care of public and private affairs.

Built in the Neoclassical style, the Town Hall is one of the most picturesque buildings in the area. The heavy oak furniture gives the Town Hall a very judicial atmosphere. As a wedding venue, the Town Hall offers a wealth of photo opportunities to accompany almost any size of ceremony. There are many paintings and other pieces of artwork that are on display throughout the building. As with many other wedding venues throughout London, you can choose one of the ceremony rooms that best suits your needs. Take your time and explore your many options. As a wedding photographer, I will work with your wedding planner to ensure your big day goes as smoothly as possible.

John Sanders, Richmond Town Hall Wedding Photographer

As a London wedding photographer, I love capturing moments. The council chamber in the Town Hall is one of many ceremony rooms used for both public and private ceremonies. The exquisite double marble staircase is good for single portraits or group shots. Many of the ceremony rooms offer an abundance of natural light that allows me to take beautiful documentary-style photographs.

I am available for bookings any day of the week. Most couples opt for a Saturday morning wedding, but the Town Halls, including Islington Town Hall, will allow civil ceremonies to be held during the week. We can work together to tell the story of your wedding and create an album you will love. We can even include photos of you signing the wedding license to make it official!
