I’m John – a documentary style wedding photographer covering Hackney Town Hall weddings and across London and the East as a whole.
My style is documentary, unposed and natural wedding photography. I prefer to capture real moments throughout your day. A leisurely stroll is perfect for beautiful portraits and I’m always happy to take some formal family groups. Low key, fun and relaxed for a stress-free wedding day.
I work across Islington, Westminster and Hackney and am recommended by many of the leading North London wedding venues.

Are You Getting Married At Hackney Town Hall?
Hackney Town Hall is an extremely popular wedding venue for North London couples. I live in the Borough of Hackney and the town hall is one of my local venues and definitely one of my favourites. I’ve written this guide for couples who are planning a Hackney Town Hall wedding and are looking to find the best wedding photographer to cover their special day.
Hackney Town Hall Wedding Photography
I’m pleased to say I am one of the few wedding photographers that are recommended by Hackney Town Hall. I typically cover weddings from the groom(s) getting ready/bridal preparations right through to the cutting of the cake and the first dance. Most Hackney Town Hall weddings are followed by a wedding reception at a local pub or restaurant, such as The Londesborough or a venue such as London Fields Brewery.
My style as a wedding photographer is documentary. This means I take candid photos of you and your guests throughout the day. This allows me to capture special moments, including all the fun, laughter, emotions and occasionally some tears. I also like to take photos of the details of the wedding dress, the table settings and the decor of the wedding as a whole for you to look back on in years to come. I find this is the best way to create authentic images which tell the story of your wedding and relationship as a couple.
I’ve covered hundreds of weddings at North and East London venues over many years. As someone who lives in Stoke Newington, Hackney, it is great to be able to work at, and be recommended by, many of the leading London wedding venues in the area.
History of Hackney Town Hall Wedding
Hackney Hall is an art deco style Grade II* listed building on Mare Street near Hackney Central Station. The current building was completed in 1934 and replaced two earlier Town Halls that were located nearby. Hackney Town Hall is still home to Hackney Borough Council and was refurbished completely in 2017.
The Town Hall is also the registry office and is used for North London wedding ceremonies. Couples can exchange their vows in the grand Council Chamber or the Committee Rooms for more intimate weddings. The Assembly Rooms at the back of the building are also available for larger events.
The 1930s building features many period details, including two curved staircases as well as two modern glass-roofed atria to ensure you can enjoy your wedding day whatever the weather outside.
Hackney Town Hall is the ideal venue for your wedding ceremony and the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos.
Hackney Town Hall Weddings
Hackney Town Hall weddings are managed by Hackney Venues which also runs other London wedding venues such as Clissold House, Stoke Newington Town Hall, the Glass House and The Chapel.
Hackney Town Hall received the Silver Award for Best New or Refurbished Venue at the 2019 London Venue Awards.
The venue can accommodate up to 550 people standing, 420 theatre seats and 250 guests for dinner and ceremonies of up to 148 people. A highlight of this wedding venue is the luxurious Bridgetown Bar with its 1930s-style decor and space for up to 40.
Within a short distance of the Town Hall wedding celebration, you may enjoy several function rooms, restaurants, and pubs such as the Londesborough or event venues such as London Fields Brewery.

Award-Winning Hackney Wedding Photographer
The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) has honoured my work as a London wedding photographer. I can capture images of your wedding day because of my documentary wedding photography style and relaxed approach. I like to be in the right place at the right time without getting in your way when I’m taking the best photos of your special day.
I often do some group photos after the ceremony and portraits of you as a couple, in addition to my candid pictures of the guests and bridal party. My style is unposed without the awkwardness of traditional wedding photography.
My images may be seen on my portfolio website, and my blog may be read for more information on recent weddings in North London.
