If you are planning a central London wedding reception and want a great party space with amazing food and service then check out The Depot N7, in London near Kings Cross. I am a London wedding photographer and have enjoyed a number of visits to this cool, split level wedding reception bar. The interior of The Depot in Kings Cross is all exposed brick work and wooden floors. The tables are all candle lit and the whole venue is warm and very welcoming.

Choosing a North London Bar Wedding Reception Venue

The Depot bar is in Carpenters Mews N7 9EF, its all cobbles and steel girders, excellent for pre dinner drinks reception. The cobbled mews is an excellent area for guests to assemble for confetti and sparklers, wedding buses often park right at the top of the mews. I should probably stop banging on about how cool the Depot Bar is and get into Jen and Richards December wedding now!

St. Josephs Church Highgate Hill Wedding Photographer

Jen and Richard got married at St. Josephs Catholic Church on Highgate Hill. I’ve photographed a number of weddings at this stunning church and love the light. There is a wonderful balcony at St. Josephs Church in Highgate where a choir can sing from, and a North London Documentary wedding photographer can also perch! This was a Christmas Wedding, so the church was bedecked with a tree and fairy lights, glorious. I’m based in North London so starting my day with Jen in Barnet and finishing in Caledonian Road/Kings Cross was perfect. After the wedding service the bride groom and I nipped to Waterlow Park for a little stroll and some wedding portraits.

Here are a few handy tips for winter wedding planning.

Do I photograph weddings in the winter?

Answer: Absolutely I do. Often there is less pressure for a gorgeous blue sky day if you choose a November – February wedding date. You kinda know its going to be cold, dark (and probably wet) so you plan your wedding accordingly. I personally got married (many moons ago) on a freezing cold December day in Bethnal Green and highly recommend a Christmas time wedding.

Are wedding timings more important for Winter Weddings?

Are wedding timings more important for Winter Weddings?

I believe they are, yes. There is far less wiggle room for over running speeches etc when the sun disappears by 4pm. If a couple are wanting a few wedding portraits post ceremony then I recommend a morning or early lunch ceremony time. I’m a low key documentary wedding photographer and prefer to use natural light for Mr and Mrs portraits.

I should probably get back to Jen and Rich’s wedding at The Depot now, apologies for the wandering blog post! St. Josephs Church in Highgate don’t allow confetti so we used the cute Carpenters Mews instead. The guests hopped off the vintage double decker (after a stop at The Emirates Stadium for a quick pic of Jen and her dad) and lined the mews . The staff at The Depot were ready and waiting with drinks and canapes and soon a band had started up and the party started.

Relaxed Winter Wedding at The Depot N7

I love a sparkler moment at a wedding. In the lead up to the big day the couple and I had talked through sparklers and the need for a bunch of lighters. The trick to sparklers at a wedding is having them all lit at the same time. Once again the cobbled mews outside the bar was perfect for sparkler antics. A highlight of this awesome wedding was photographing the guests all shouting Expecto Patronus while pointing their wands….sorry, sparklers. The Harry Potter generation, love it.
