Susie and Matt got married in The Great Barn in Harrow. The day was a blast and grey November skies didn’t impact at all. I’m going to share some of their fabulous wedding images and talk you through their wonderful wedding day. First though, a little about Harrow Great Barn. The Great Barn is part of the Headstone Manor Estate and, as the name suggests has a bloomin’ big barn as the centre piece of this stylish wedding venue. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a number of weddings at Harrow Great barn, the huge space is very adaptable with screens dividing up the barn and providing separate dining, dining and games areas. Behind every successful wedding venue there’s a hard working team of event managing experts and The Great Barn in Harrow is no exception.

Getting Married at The Great Barn in Harrow

I arrived to The Great Barn to find Matt and the fellas suited and booted and practicing their hip flask skills. It turns out the boys had excellent hip flask skills which they showed off all day. The Headstone Manor wedding venue has a number of out-buildings that are available to a wedding party including a cute cottage, perfect for getting ready in. The main barn was set up ready for the wedding ceremony. Guests were beginning to arrive, I was floating about the party recording the excitement building. The skies were threatening rain but thankfully held off, getting married in the UK in November is going to be a gamble if you are after a clear crisp day.

North London Barn Wedding Venue

I like a winter wedding, there’s no pressure of sunny blue skies and al fresco drinks that an August wedding brings. If you are planning an autumn or winter wedding then chances are the event will be wrapped up warn in-doors. As a tip give a bit of thought to the ceremony times as it gets dark around 4pm from November onwards. I like a unposed and natural portrait, a little stroll after the wedding ceremony. Matt and Susie were keen on a low key approach to their wedding portraits so arranged for the wedding to be at 2 pm giving us an half an hour for out door photography; confetti, some family portraits and a 10 minute wander for portraits.

There are lovely gardens and grounds at The Great Barn in Harrow. I know the venue very well and was able to suggest a pretty route that kept Susie’s gorgeous dress mud free! Susie , Matt and I walked along beside a little stream with weeping willows, a brolly to hand but not needed. The lovely couple were chatting and laughing and generally ignoring the camera as I captured fun moments. Within 10 minutes were back in the warm and the couple were relaxed in the knowledge that their portraits and all the family groups were out the way. The wedding guests were drinking, celebrating and picking confetti out of their hair while the ceremony chairs were tied up and tables laid for dinner.

Wedding Speeches at Headstone Manor

Wedding speeches are always a highlight. I love photographing guests reactions to a speech. Matt’s best-men did not disappoint when it came to embarrassing stories, apparently, what happens ‘on tour’ doesn’t always stay on tour! After a wonderful street food meal provided by the talented Mr Pig Stuff it was time for sparklers outside.

Organising Wedding Sparklers at The Harrow Great Barn

I’m always on hand to help coordinate sparkler moments. The trick is to have all the sparklers light at the same time. If you’re planning sparklers at a wedding then make sure you have plenty of lighters! The Great Barn Harrow event team were enormously helpful during the sparkler tunnel and also made sure everyone was a suitably long was away from the barn. Apparently ancient wooden buildings and fire do not mix…

A talented band got the dance-floor busy and the bar was packed. The bride and groom didn’t want a traditional first dance so dance-floor filled up straight way. I left the wonderful party and would like to thank everyone involved for making so welcome.
