kings arms old amersham wedding 030

Alice and Ollie celebrated their wedding in the Kings Chapel at The Kings Arms in Old Amersham. Old Amersham is a very pretty village just outside London. My wedding day started at The Kings Arms where Alice and her pals were in the final stages of hair and make up. Behind the Kings Arms pub, in Old Amersham is The Kings Chapel. This pretty red brick building has a large function room that suits both weddings and wedding receptions. The Kings Chapel also has a first floor space perfect for pre wedding hair and make up. While the girls were enjoying a glass of bubbles the fellas were in the beer garden at The Kings Head, Ollie meeting and greeting guests as they arrived to celebrate this fabulous wedding.

Kings Chapel Wedding Reception Old Amersham

When I photograph a wedding in an area thats new to me I always arrive an hour early so I can have a thorough look around. On the morning of Alice and Ollie’s Old Amersham wedding I walked the route between the Kings Arms Pub and St. Mary’s Church, about 5 minutes or so. St. Mary’s Church in Old Amersham is beautiful and sits beside a pretty little stream with weeping willows. Behind St. Mary’s is a huge field of wheat that I wouldn’t have known about had I not done a recce pre wedding. Both Alice and Ollie were keen on very low key documentary wedding photography, as many natural and unposed moments as possible. Ollie and fellas walked over to the church, I was floating about in my usual documentary style. I nipped back to The Kings Chapel. Alice, the bridesmaids and her dapper father were gathered, excitement building waiting for their walk to the wedding.

The wedding was gorgeous with all the fave hymns sung at top volume. Before long Ollie and Alice were in a shower of cheers and confetti. We had a quick and ordered family group portrait session outside the church, just family so most of the guests made their way straight back to The Kings Head garden for the wedding reception. For their wedding portraits, Alice and Ollie wanted a maximum of 10 minutes away from their party and did not like the idea of posing at all. This is absolutely in my wheel house and am happy to say in ten minutes we got everything we needed with minimum of posing. We had a fun little stroll around the church yard and field behind, this was a welcome break from the wedding and a opportunity for a quiet moment for the new Mr and Mrs.

The wedding reception was held in the large garden behind The Kings Arms in Old Amersham. Trays of drinks were doing the rounds while I floated about the party capturing those little moments. Ollie and the groomsmen managed to convince Alice that she needed to be picked up. After Alice had been (carefully) lifted up for a fun shot Ollie was much less carefully flung up in the air. Ollie is a big fella so there was a lot of wincing from the guests! I was on hand to grab some lovely acrobatic shots.

The Kings Chapel has a raised pulpit thats bedecked in flowers. This raised platform is perfect for wedding speeches and also an excellent spot for a documentary wedding photographer to grab a high point! Once the wedding guests were seated, Alice’s father kicked off the speeches, amusing and emotional in equal measure. I usually stay at a wedding for an hour or so into dancing but this stylish couple only wanted the day and speeches captured so I left the party early evening. Every wedding I photograph, be it in Hackney (my home manor), the home counties or further afield in Somerset is built around the same structure but entirely unique.

I live in Stoke Newington in Hackney East London. I photograph weddings all over London and the home counties often getting as far as Somerset down in the West Country. I’ve picked up a few awards over the years and am known for my soft approach and natural unposed style. I am always on hand to lend a bit of experience to confetti questions or sparkler tunnel ideas and think a few formal family photographs are as important as Mr and Mrs portraits. If you would like to check out the way I approach wedding photography then have a look at My Style. My Portfolio has examples of previous wedding along with My Journal.
