Getting Married at Dartmouth House in Mayfair

This was my first visit to Dartmouth House in Mayfair for a wedding ceremony and reception. Dartmouth House is an elegant Georgian Mansion right in the centre of Mayfair and has raced straight into my top ten London Wedding and Reception venues. This gorgeous building is quite new on the wedding ceremony scene so I was super excited to be commissioned to photograph Sharms’s big day. Mayfair is an exclusive and chic area of London’s Westend. You may remember the dread of landing on the super expensive Monopoly Board Park Lane property when its been loaded it with Hotels! Talking of Mayfair Hotels (nice segue…) I met up with Sharms and her bridesmaids at The Chesterfield Hotel, conveniently right next door to Dartmouth House.

The Chesterfield Hotel Mayfair Wedding Photographer

The Chesterfield Hotel in Mayfair is magnificent and perfect for a wedding or for getting ready for your Dartmouth House wedding ceremony. This wonderful luxury 5 Star Hotel is 2 minutes walk from Green Park Tube and has bags of old school charm. The luxury hotel is also next door to Dartmouth House so couldn’t be more convenient. There are cheery doorman in bowler hats at The Chesterfield, there to welcome you and open the doors. The interior is ‘turn it up to 11’ luxury and the bar looks amazing. Sharms and her bridesmaids were enjoying a glass of bubbles in their room as the talented hair and make up artist Carla Crawford worked her magic. I was downstairs in the stylish lobby of The Chesterfield Hotel when Sharms appeared in her wedding dress. It was a emotional moment for her best friends to see her for the first time.

I left The Chesterfield Hotel to walk over to meet Andrew the groom in St. James Park, next to Buckingham Palace. Andrew is Scottish and was looking splendid in his kilt along with 20 or so other kilted Scotsmen. We had a fun walk through Green Park and Mayfair to Dartmouth House where wedding guests were beginning to arrive. Twenty or so fellas all in kilts turned a few heads as they walked through the park. The wedding day, (although it was in October!) was 25 degrees so wearing various layers of heavy tartan and tweed was hot work! We arrived to Dartmouth House where button holes were attached and groomsmen orders given.

Luxury Central London Wedding Venues

The beautiful and historic building in Mayfair has a huge and majestic marble staircase and a stunning open air courtyard. The wedding was held on the first floor of Dartmouth House. The flowers were beautiful and guests were seated as Sharms walked over from The Chesterfield Hotel. Sharms and Andrew tied the knot in front of friends and family with your truly capturing the moments. The wedding ceremony room is large enough for me to be able to move about freely without impacting on the wedding. This is important for me as I like to be an unobtrusive and low key documentary wedding photographer.

The courtyard at Dartmouth House is a perfect drinks reception location. We used the stylish space for a few family group portraits and a fun ‘everyone’ picture too. The streets around Mayfair are perfect for a relaxed stroll while wedding guests tucked into the champagne. The bride, groom and I took 10 minutes or so for some wedding portraiture. I don’t like to take a couple away from their own wedding party for more than 15 minutes and had already done a recce. One of my fave images from the portrait session was when we passed The Chesterfield Hotel on our way back, a cute natural moment, unposed and real.

Wedding Reception held at Dartmouth House in Mayfair

Wedding guests made their way into the ornate dining room ready for some much needed food and speeches. In a really cool touch Andrew and Sharms were piped into the wedding reception by a guest with bag pipes. The speeches were a hoot. Andrew was a great sport when asked to stand up and sing a song by his two brothers and best-men. The groom wasn’t a huge fan of the lime light so this was particularly brave! The ceremony room had been converted into a bar and dance-floor. The party continued long into the night and I left this awesome Dartmouth House wedding to sound of (you guested it) “and I will walk 10,000 miles, dah dah dah da”.
