The Goring Hotel Belgravia Wedding Photographer

Hi, I’m John, I photograph fabulous weddings all over London and the UK. I’ve picked up a few awards over the years and love what I do. Louise and Julian decided on the magnificent The Goring Hotel to host their autumn wedding. They wanted a low key, documentary wedding photographer and commissioned me to work my wedding photojournalist skills for them. This was a small and intimate family and friends wedding party that fit perfectly into the Goring’s Garden Room. The Garden Room at The Goring Hotel is an attractive split level room with a private bar and with access from a patio to the stunning rear gardens. The versatile room acted as the ceremony space before being transformed into a magnificent private dining room.

The Goring Hotel is tucked away on an attractive road in Belgravia in Central London. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a number of Goring Hotel weddings. I work closely with the wedding team and enjoy a preferred supplier status. I love the old school charm of this 5 star central London Hotel. A Goring Hotel wedding suits a small and intimate wedding plan, 30-50 guests is about right. That is unless you want to take over the bar and dining area, which are generally public spaces. The public spaces at The Goring are suitably luxurious. There’s lots of marble corridors, polished brass and smart doorman in bowler hats. The cocktail bar is super stylish and immediately makes me want to order an Old Fashioned, regardless of the time of day – dangerous!

I arrived to The Goring to meet Louise and her family enjoying a glass or two of champagne in her luxurious suite. Julian and his sons were meeting and greeting guests at the main bar – not a bad way to start a wedding day. I was able to float between the two parties in my usual unobtrusive and low-key style. There are wonderfully polite and helpful staff and doorman at The Goring so moving around the hotel is a pleasure. Before long the guests made their way downstairs to the The Garden Room where the registrars were waiting to officiate the wedding. Julian stood waiting for Louise, the stage was set for a wonderful wedding.

I prefer not to use flash at a wedding as it can be distracting. Check out My Style page to get an insight into how I approach wedding photography. The Garden Room at The Goring has low, warm romantic lighting that suited the autumnal atmosphere. Louise and Julian tied the knot to cheers and celebrations and before long took themselves off the main bar. The wedding guests used the lower patio doors to go outside ready to welcome the newly-weds with cheers and confetti. There are ornate steps leading from the Goring Dining Room down to the manicured rear garden of The Goring. I often use these steps for family groups and confetti.

Julian and Louise wanted a no fuss portrait shoot after their wedding. The streets of Belgravia are stunning and made for a beautiful back drop for their little stroll. Once we returned to the party the bride and groom walked through the gorgeous marble corridors giving me further opportunities for captured natural moments. I rarely ask couples to stand and pose fop a portraits, I take a more documentary approach. Dinner was being served in The Garden Room as I left the stylish wedding. Louise and Julian wanted a chic dinner party and had no plans for cake cutting or first dances. The Goring Hotel suited their plans perfectly and the talented staff made it all happen.
