The Hackney // East London Wedding Venue

The Hackney is a cool wedding and event venue in East London. I’ve had the great pleasure of photographing a number of weddings at The Hackney, formerly The Hackney Coffee Company. Angela and Mike had enjoyed my wedding photography from previous Hackney Weddings and decided I was the right fit for their low key wedding celebration. This stylish East London wedding venue is on Bethnal Green Road, not far from The Town Hall Hotel, another wicked stylish East London wedding venue.

Getting Married at The Hackney in Bethnal Green

The main wedding space at The Hackney is to the rear of the building. The Hackney has exposed brick walls and a ton of gorgeous plants which lend a ‘cool loft living’ vibe to the East London event space. There is a very useful outdoor space with a tent covering making it an all year round prospect and helpful for any naughty smokers in your gang. Guests were welcomed to the front bar area for Ang and Mikes wedding. Trays of Old Fashioned and Expresso Martinis were already prepared and the bride and groom were all smiles. A brilliant trio of French folk song musicians were providing the back ground music. I take a natural and unposed approach to wedding photography and was floating about the party shooting a mix of colour and black and white. The wedding guests finally took their seats and Ang, escorted by her mum walked up the aisle to tie the knot with Mike.

Relaxed and Easy Going East London Wedding Photographer

I love indoor confetti. Mike and Ang walked through their wedding guests in a shower of confetti and cheers. Guests replenished their drinks as the staff at The Hackney removed the wedding ceremony seating and set up the tables ready for the feat a bit later. While everyone enjoyed a cocktail or two Ang, Mike and I nipped out for ten minutes for some portraits. Bethnal Green Road is gritty and urban with a bit grub here and there. The bride and groom lived locally and wanted their wedding portraits to reflect the area they loved, graffiti and litter included! I used to live in Bethnal Green and know the area well. I had an idea for a short stroll around the side streets near The Hackney, the sun obligingly popped out for us.

We returned to The Hackney where the drinks were flowing and food about to be served. For a relatively small East London wedding venue The Hackney is incredibly versatile. The ceremony space was converted into a beautiful candle light dining room. There were some amusing and moving speeches followed by course after course of delish food. There is a talented staff at The Hackney including an amazing award winning chef. The food is quality and plentiful along with a fabulous selection of wines. I always photograph the table settings, flowers and little details that go into a wedding. There is a wonderful attention to detail for the table settings at The Hackney.

Finding a Cool Bethnal Green Wedding Venue

Once again the main event space was converted into a dance-floor by the tireless The Hackney team. The bride and groom are keen dancers and met through dance lessons. The standard of dancing was ridiculously good as many of the guests attended the same dance classes. After a fun first dance everyone put head phones on and a silent disco started. This was my first wedding with a silent disco, it was bonkers!
