Islington Town Hall with The Depot N7 Wedding Reception

Anne and Chris celebrated their wedding at The Depot N7 Bar near Kings Cross. The wonderful couple had got married moments earlier at Islington Town Hall in the Council Chamber. The Depot Bar is a split level wedding reception venue with a cobbled mews. Its only 20 minutes on a bus from Islington to The Depot which makes this cool London wedding reception venue super popular. In fact, The Depot is super convenient for all the London Town Halls I regularly photograph weddings at including Hackney Town Hall, Marylebone Town Hall and my local fave Stoke Newington Town Hall.

Islington Town Hall Wedding Photographer

My day started at The Hilton Hotel in Islington on Upper Street N1. The Hilton Hotel is a great choice for a pre Islington Town Hall Wedding. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Islington Town Hall and is where Anne and the bridal party stayed the night before. Chris had also stayed at The Hilton and was chilling at the bar with the fellas. The wedding couple commissioned my wedding photography for a few reasons, but first and foremost I am very relaxed and prefer natural and unposed wedding photography. Both the bride and groom were nervous about having a photographer with them all day and particularly about having their portraits taken.

I walked over to the Town Hall with the groom and his pals. We didn’t stop for photography, I prefer to walk with and slightly in front of the gang capturing honest and natural images, no posing. The Council Chamber at Islington Town Hall is a large circular room with high windows providing diffused and flattering natural light. Guests were seated as Chris’s best-man sorted the entrance music on his phone. Anne arrived with her father in a lovely little vintage car. I am always on hand for the arrival of the bride, its a lovely and important moment. Say I do Islington are the wedding team that organise all the weddings at Islington Town Hall and Islington Assembly Hall. The wedding team are slick bunch and juggle multiple weddings every day. They somehow manage to provide each wedding (and wedding photographer) with the time they need to get confetti and family portraits done on the steps and use the fabulous interior marble staircase.

The Depot N7 Pub Wedding Reception

Buses delivered the wedding guests to The Depot N7 for the wedding reception. The bride, groom and I got to The Depot early in their vintage car. The team at The Depot greeting Anne and Chris with a glass of champagne. I was floating about the venue as the wedding guests arrived and the party began. A talented saxophonist had been hired and was providing cool jazz vibes in the back ground. Delicious canapes were ready and waiting and the bar was open! The Depot has split levels that work really well for diving particular groups. Some of the guests has children with them that wanted to be sat together so the kids could hang out. One whole level was therefore designated a child zone with games, pens and paper.

London Foodie Pub Wedding Reception Venues

The food at The Depot N7 is delicious. The North London Bar is open to the public when its not hired for weddings, I recommend visiting for a Sunday roast sometime! The main danger at The Depot is filling up on canapes before the main meal is served. Dinner and speeches followed. The wedding couple had decided that they would be kind to their speakers and do speeches after the starter. I’ve seen nervous best-men refusing any drinks and barely eating as they have a speech to do at the end of the night, far kinder to get the speeches done. The out door cobbled space has picnic tables and a bar set up. The weather was warm and clear so all the guests took their drinks chat outside. This let the Depot staff flip the room into a dance-floor ready for the DJ to kick off.

Sparklers at a Depot N7 Wedding Reception

I love sparklers. Guests provided a sparkler tunnel that took the bride and groom back into The Depot for their first dance. I have photographed sparkers at weddings many times and have learnt a few things about the best way to do it. The key is having all the sparklers going at the same time, not easy! I always suggest groups of guests teepee their sparklers together so 5-10 light at the same time. If all the guests do this together then, in theory all the sparklers light together and provide the magical tunnel. The first dance was followed very quickly with a packed dance-floor. I left the fabulous party later that night, dance-floor and bar both packed.
