The Hackney Coffee Company Wedding Venue

The Hackney Coffee Company on Hackney Road is a very stylish East London wedding reception venue. During the day this super cool café and restaurant near Bethnal Green knocks out oat milk flat whites by the dozen. There are sofas and tables populated by home workers all surrounded by tons of plants and bare brick work. In the evening the booze license kicks in and The Hackney Coffee Company comes alive. Behind the front of house café and bar is a fabulous little function space. The party space is capable of seating 40 or so guests and has a living wall of plants at one end. There is a very useful covered outdoor area. The pretty paved garden is not just for the naughty smokers but also able to be used as an extension to the function space thereby increasing capacity.

Hackney Town Hall Committee Rooms Wedding Photographer

Lucy and Henry chose the Hackney Town Hall as the venue for their East London Wedding. This wonderful couple live in Bethnal Green and were keen to keep their wedding plans local. The couple were also adamant that they wanted an un-posed and natural style to their wedding photography. When it came to booking their London wedding photographer I ticked all the boxes. I’m Hackney based (home is Stoke Newington) and I love to float about a wedding without impacting on the flow of the party. I’m also a preferred supplier for Hackney Venues and know all their fab locations very well.

The Old Ship Pub – Pre Wedding Drinks for Hackney Town Hall Wedding

Henry and his brother (also the best-man) were meeting and greeting wedding guests in The Old Ship Pub on Mare Street. The Old Ship Pub is perfectly positioned for pre Hackney Town Hall wedding drinks. The pub is a one minute walk from the Town Hall in Hackney and serves decent pub grub and has a very decent selection of crafty beers and lagers. The Old Ship also does those amazing gin and tonics in massive wine glasses full of berries and zest, my wife loves them! A quarter of an hour or so before the wedding ceremony Henry and the guests walked over to the Town hall.

The Committee Rooms at The Hackney Town Hall have wonderful natural light. The wood panelling of the Committee rooms gives a warm feel to the photography, it’s a very flattering room. I’ve photographed some of my fave weddings in this particular Hackney Venues Room. Lucy arrived to the Town Hall with her father and sister. The sun was shining and she looked absolutely dynamite. The wedding was moving and full of laughter. Before long the guests were being ushered out to the main steps ready for confetti. The bride and groom and I remained in the gorgeous marble atrium outside the Committee Rooms. This five minute breather is always perfect moment to grab a few portraits. Lucy and Henry didn’t want to pose for pictures so I just hung back and captured natural moments.

Do documentary wedding photographers photograph formal family groups after a wedding?

I am often asked if I photograph family groups after a wedding; YES! It’s true that most of my wedding photography comes from floating and being in the right place at the right time (15 years of experience here really helps…). Formal family group photographs are an important element to a wedding although there needn’t be too many. The list of various combinations can grow and become ridiculous, I suggest 10 max. Confetti on the steps of Hackney Town Hall is often followed by a big group picture and then some smaller family groups, this is exactly what Henry and Lucy decided.

The Hackney Coffee House Wedding Reception

A vintage red double decker bus delivered the wedding party to the cool Hackney wedding venue. Drinks and nibbles were waiting and the sun was setting. I took the opportunity to invite the bride and groom to have a little stroll also Hackney Road, very much their manor. The dining area of The Hackney Coffee Company was set up in a horse show of tables and looked amazing. A talented musical duo, singing and strumming provided some lovely noise and the celebrations really got going. I was able to move around the venue in my low key style. I also pay particular attention to the little details that go into a wedding day. The wedding cake, table setting, flowers and stationary are all the important details that I love to document. The super talented chef at The Hackney Coffee Company produced a stunning feast along with wine pairing. Food and wine were the absolutely central element to this wedding reception. The invite actually called the wedding reception a Dinner Party and that is exactly the feel of the evening.
