The Clarence Tavern in Stoke Newington N16 is a stylish Hackney pub wedding reception venue. There is no shortage of decent pubs in Hackney and Stoke Newington itself has a few cracking boozers. The Londesborough and The Prince N16 are ‘stand out’ and mega popular – booked way into 2023 already. Stoke Newington Church Street is a chic little road with plenty of cool boutiques and cafes and The Clarence Tavern. This pub is really a Restaurant in disguise. The menu is fantastic and thank the Lord it survived the pandemic.

Maya and Craig chose to hire the stylish first floor, private dining room for their wedding reception. The smallish room can handle 40 or guests and has its own cool little bar. The fabulous colour scheme looks amazing on camera and the whole space feels special. There are views over Stoke Newington Church Street and the Auld Shillelagh Pub (had to look up the spelling here!). The Abney Park Cemetery is a two minute walk from the Clarence Tavern and a perfect spot for wedding portraits. I walk my daft Labrador in Abney Park every day so it was a particular joy to nip in for some natural and unposed portraits on the way to the wedding reception.

Getting married at Hackney Town Hall Lanchester Suite

The Lanchester Suite is Hackney Town Halls smallest wedding ceremony room. I photographed a number of small and intimate weddings in this cute little space during the pandemic so it was familiar to me. Craig was meeting and greeting guests outside the Town hall when I arrived. The couple live in Clapton so Hackney Town Hall was super local for them. Maya arrived with her besties looking dynamite and super excited. We managed to dodge the confetti moment on the Town hall steps from the wedding preceding Maya and Craigs. In the old days (a few years back) wedding parties would access the Hackney Town hall via the rear doors. That left the iconic steps at the front clear for newly weds to take over for confetti and portraits. Now its a little game of ‘dodge the bride and groom’ to get inside. This process is masterfully managed by the Hackney Venues team so don’t worry about it! I am a preferred supplier for Hackney Venues so can vouch for these lovely people!

Cool Hackney Wedding Reception Venues

After the wedding ceremony the guests made their way outside the sweeping steps on Hackney Town Hall. The Hackney Empire over looks the Town Hall and always makes a wonderful backdrop. There is always 15 minutes or so allowed on the steps for every wedding. This enables confetti and some family groups along with an ‘everyone’ picture. I have a love of the interior of Hackney Town Hall, all the deco style and marble, its a gift for portraits. The short walk between the Lanchester Suite and the Town Hall steps is a wonderful opportunity for natural portraits. Maya and Craig didn’t want any overly posed portraits so this little walk through the stylish deco interior worked well.
