Planning a Small Wedding at Islington Town Hall Room 99
Room 99 at Islington Town Hall is perfect for small and intimate wedding ceremonies. The Mayors Parlour at Islington Town Hall has been replaced by Room 99 and has undergone a stylish upgrade. Chris and Kathi picked Room 99 at Islington Town Hall for their beautiful little wedding ceremony. This micro wedding was very much ‘family only’ and had a wonderful Islington feel to it. The weather was bright but cool. After a baking summer heat wave, this was an absolute joy.
Booking a last minute wedding at Islington Town Hall
Getting married in Islington
I am an Islington wedding photographer and often get booked at the last minute for a small town hall wedding. By ‘last minute’ I mean a couple of weeks before the wedding date rather than the standard six months to a year or so. Kathi and Chris wanted a small family wedding in their home neighbourhood of Islington, Room 99 at Islington Town Hall was perfect. The bride and groom arrived to Upper Street together. The lovely couple weren’t too bothered with tradition and preferred to walk into the wedding ceremony room as a couple. A lovely feature of Room 99 is the circular mirror that reflects the couple as they take their vows. It’s a bit tricky to find exactly the right spot to capture the couple and their reflection without accidentally joining them in the reflection! The grooms brother took control of the music and the Islington registrars took over the legal side of things.
Getting married in Islington
The marble stair case in Islington Town hall is a show stopper. Some of my favourite wedding pictures are from couples either walking up the stairs or descending down for their confetti and celebrations. On a rainy wedding day the marble staircase works beautifully for a big group picture and the balcony is stunning for family groups. The marble corridor that Room 99 opens off is great for Mr and Mrs portraits. Pools of light spill onto the ornate floor providing amazing portrait opportunities. Keeping the bride and groom back for a couple of minutes after the wedding for some portraits in the corridor enables the weddings guests to make their own way outside ready for confetti or rice on the main steps.
Wedding Receptions at the Albion Pub in Islington
Islington has a ton of fantastic pubs all walkable from the Town Hall. The Albion is one of my favourite Islington pubs, along with The Drapers Arms. I often stop in at The Albion for a pint of Guinness after a dog walk so it was extra special to photograph a wedding reception here. The nibbles (ahem, also known as canapes) served when we arrived at The Albion were double delicious. Think best mini sausage roll ever on a platter with tiny burgers – pure joy.
Wedding portraits in Islington
Many couples choose to book a vintage double decker to ferry their guests to a London wedding reception. Kathi and Chris wanted to stay local in Islington and use the walk between venues for some relaxed un-posed portraits. The back streets between Islington Town Hall and The Albion are super cute, lots of cobbled mews and expensive town houses. It’s about a ten minute walk and Kathi was in a wedding dress and shoes that enabled a mobility. We all set off across the zebra crossing outside the Town Hall, a fun gang off for a few drinks, all very chilled. I was able to keep slightly ahead of the party in order to photograph some captured moments, when the couple are off their guard. I love these discrete portraits when a newly married couple are totally unaware of the camera.
