I am a documentary wedding photographer based in London. What is documentary wedding photography, and why is everybody harping on about it? Well, documentary wedding photography, also known as reportage or wedding photojournalism is a discrete and low key photography style. Documentary wedding photography is capturing honest and unposed photography of your wedding. Most weddings that I am commissioned to photograph have between 60 and 200 guests. It is simply impossible for a bride and groom to be everywhere at once which is where I come in. I love to float about a wedding capturing the fun, emotions and celebrations – a fly on the wall.

Hackney Documentary Wedding Photographer

Some wedding photographers step back 100% from all formal set piece photography,  I do not. A wedding brings families together therefore family group portraits are important. Family groups photographs are a one off occasion and I take them seriously that said, I am also super speedy!

Great documentary wedding photography is often a case of being in the right place at the right time. Pre wedding planning including a thorough recce of the wedding venue is vital. If you are planning a church wedding service I need to know where I get the best access without impacting on the ceremony. If you are tying the knot al-fresco beside a lake I will have had a good scout about before so I know where best to be. Drop me a line if you would like me to be your London documentary wedding photographer, I would love to hear from you.
