The historic Chelsea Old Church was the venue for Helen and Charlie’s wedding on a bright November day on the embankment in London Town. I met a very dapper looking Charlie plus best-man and ushers having a bite to eat and a pre wedding pint or two in a lovely little pub called The Pig’s Ear, a short walk from Chelsea Old Church. The weather was being kind – clear skies and low winter sunshine, so we nipped out for a few pictures before I made my way to meet Helen and her six (yes, SIX!) bridesmaids in the final stages of hair and make up.

Helen and her pals all looked absolutely stunning. I floated about in my usual unobtrusive manner. I dress smartly like a guest and like to blend into a wedding. We organised a short pre wedding portrait session, all set to the beautiful sound of Helen’s father on the (very grand) piano, a very musical house!

Chelsea Old Church has a wonderful and regal history, Henry VIII wed Jane Seymore here and Lady Jane Grey received communion every Sunday. Sadly the church was flattened by the naughty Germans during the Second World War and now has a more modern exterior, though many of the original features remain inside. Helen arrived with her father in a beautiful vintage car and the wedding went without a hitch. A fantastic choir added their voices to the already impressive volume, thanks no doubt to the number of Welsh guests.

After a quick low key portrait session with an illuminated Albert Bridge in the background, we all set off for the Hurlingham Club for the reception. The Hurlingham Club is a gem of a venue. Located in the heart of Chelsea and Kensington its sprawling grounds and facilities are second to none. Champagne and a harpist awaited the wedding guests and dinner and speeches followed. I left the happy couple late in the evening, the dance floor banging and everyone having a fabulous knees up. I have been photographing weddings at The Hurlingham Club for some years now and always look forward to a return visit. One of these days I will get to play on their grass tennis courts, fingers crossed!

I would like to thank Helen and Charlie for making me so welcome and wish them all the very best in future. Special thanks also to Mari, mother of the bride, for commissioning me in the first place, and to Rob, best man, for working so hard on the day.
