Room 99 Islington Town Hall Wedding

Ellie and Ian got married in Room 99 at Islington Town Hall. The North London wedding celebration was split between an Islington Town Hall wedding ceremony and a glam party at Harrild & Sons the following day. This was a gorgeous December wedding and my last of 2024. The bride and groom had planned a low key, family only wedding and wanted a discrete, documentary style to their wedding photography. Room 99 in Islington Town Hall is a perfect and stylish fit for a small and intimate London wedding.

The assembled family of Ellie and Ian cheered the couples arrival. I floated about the space capturing the delicate moments of the wedding in my low impact wedding photography style. Islington Town Hall is local to me and I’m happy to know it well. The magnificent Town Hall in Islington is one of my fave wedding venues along with Hackney Town Hall and Marylebone Old Town Hall. The smallest wedding ceremony room in Islington Town Hall is Room 99, its similar to The Paddington Room at Marylebone Old Hall in size. Room 99 is a small and stylish room, perfect for a 10 to 20 people party or a micro wedding.

Getting married in a London Town Hall

Ian and Ellie exchanged their wedding vows in front of their families. I like to be as low key and discrete as possible at a wedding. Even through Room 99 is small I’m still able to keep to the periphery and stay out of eye-lines. After the ceremony the wedding guests made their ways outside ready to cheer the newlyweds in a shower of confetti. The couple and I stayed behind for 5 minutes to use the stunning corridors and stairs for some portraits.

We all walked from Islington Town Hall to Trullo, a stylish Italian restaurant in Islington. As we were slightly ahead of schedule it seems madness not to stop at The Alwyne Castle on the way for a cheeky Guinness. The Alwyne Castle is a pleasant pub with tons of space. I haven’t photographed a wedding or wedding reception here before but it would make a very cool venue. A word to the wise, avoid Arsenal home game days as the pub goes bananas!

Trullo Restaurant Wedding Reception

Trullo, 300-3023 St. Pauls Road, London N1 2LH

Trullo is a wonderful Italian restaurant in islington. There is a stylish private dining space downstairs that Ellie and Ian booked. They had the entire space for the afternoon and were treated to some amazing dishes. I stayed for a chinking of glasses at Trullo before saying my good-byes. I would be seeing all the gang the following day at Harrild & Sons for the party.

The bride and groom arrived to Harrild & Sons looking absolute dynamite. They swept into the main bar to cheers and celebrations. I was able to float about the venue in my usual documentary wedding photography style. Small plate food came out quickly. Mini fish and chips and tiny burger’s but the real treat was the curry. Food at a boozy wedding reception is always a treat but also a necessity!

Harrild & Sons Wedding Reception

This was my first visit to Harrild & Sons in Farringdon. Harrild & Sons is a split level bar with a more traditional pub vibe upstairs. In the basement is a ‘Speak Easy’ cocktail bar with mood lighting and booths. Each booth had a lamp providing puddles of light throughout the room. Its times like these that I am thankful for a long career in photography. The dark and romantic lighting is technically tricky for an amateur or newby wedding photographer. Personally – I loved it!!

The staff at Harrild & Sons were really on their game. The wedding and events coordinator ran a fantastic party and the cocktail team worked their socks off. The downstairs cocktail bar filled up after food. Ian grabbed a mike for a funny and emotional speech. During cocktails a band (Foxland – defo worth a listen) had set up in the main bar. Harrild & Sons has space to spare for a band and dancing. This Farringdon wedding reception bar reminds me of The Depot N7 in Kings Cross, another fave joint of mine.
