I’m John – a documentary style wedding photographer covering Somerset House and weddings across London and the South East of England.
My style is documentary, unposed and natural wedding photography. I prefer to capture real moments throughout your day. A leisurely stroll is perfect for beautiful portraits and I’m always happy to take some formal family groups. Low key, fun and relaxed for a stress-free wedding day.

Are You Getting Married at Somerset House?
Choosing Somerset House as your wedding venue is the perfect decision for your London wedding. The beautiful neoclassical building gives you the perfect setting for your wedding ceremony and a backdrop for stunning documentary-style images. As a North London Wedding Photographer, I know Somerset House to be one of my absolute favourites in terms of the location and its architecture. There is no doubt that choosing your venue is just as important as choosing the right wedding dress and Somerset House is ideal.
The History of Somerset House
Somerset House, as it sits today, was built in 1776 with renovations continuing off and on throughout Queen Victoria’s reign. Queen Elizabeth, I actually lived in the original Somerset House for a short period of time before she took the throne. Today, the luxurious Georgian-era quadrangle is located on the southern edge of the Strand. It sits slightly east of Waterloo Bridge and overlooks the River Thames.
While the original Somerset House (also known as Tudor Palace) was the home of royals, the current Somerset House now contains many government and public offices. It is a hub for creativity where artists and filmmakers exhibit their many offerings. It offers 12 venue rooms that can be decorated for almost any style of wedding.
Weddings at Somerset House
With 12 venue rooms to choose from, the bride and groom can find the perfect setting for their wedding. You have at your disposal a variety of resources, including the staff at the venue who always go above and beyond. There are many locations both inside Somerset House and outside on the grounds that are ideal for wedding photographs.
With all of its extravagant artistry and architecture, Somerset House offers old-world elegance with many contemporary features. The House has five cafes and restaurants that offer a variety of foods that can be served at your reception. Somerset House is truly a place for celebration where you can enjoy amazing scenic views, delicious food, and a venue that offers a host of amenities that will make your wedding day one to remember. As you tie the knot and toast each other with champagne, I am able to capture each beautiful moment.
Wedding Photography at Somerset House
As a North London wedding photographer, I can confirm that Somerset House is definitely very photogenic. From its grand, sweeping staircases to its beautiful terraces, the venue also has celebration rooms that are ‘blank canvases’. You can decorate them in any way you wish to create the perfect environment for your wedding ceremony. When it comes to your reception, Spring Restaurant offers delicious meals to top off your wedding reception.
Somerset House is full of artistic grandeur. For all of the prominent areas where wedding portraits can be taken, there are dozens more quaint, spaces that are lesser-known, but just as exquisite as those that are front and centre. Outside Somerset House, there are many views that will set your photos apart from all the others.
John Sanders as Your Somerset House Wedding Photographer
My name is John Sanders and I am a well-known Somerset House Wedding Photographer. Its Georgian features and its distinctive architecture make it one of the most iconic and unique wedding venues in central London. It is a unique wedding venue for the simple fact that you can seamlessly blend historical traditions with state-of-the-art, contemporary features.
As a wedding photographer, it is my job to find the most unique locations for your traditional portraits and special moments. Somerset House has many places where I can slide into the shadows to capture the images that may not have occurred if you saw the camera. The artistic nature of the venue inspires creativity and provides the subtle imagery that can only be found in a building that is rich in design and cultural diversity.
