I’m John – a documentary style wedding photographer covering Islington Town Hall weddings and working across London and the South East of England. I live in Stoke Newington which is 10 minutes away from Islington. I photograph many weddings in Islington all through the year. I therefore know this chic and stylish North London borough very well and would love to be a part of your big day. Islington Town Hall Committee Room is circular, oak panelled and well light, even in the dark winter months. Marble plays a starring role in Islington Town Hall. The marble corridor next to the Committee room is perfect for portraits and the grand staircase is a show stopper. For smaller more intimate weddings in Islington check out Room 99. What used to be The Mayors Parlour has been transformed into a bright and cool little marriage space suitable for 15 or so guests, and a photographer!

My style is documentary, unposed and natural wedding photography. I prefer to capture real moments throughout your day. A leisurely stroll is perfect for beautiful portraits and I’m always happy to take some formal family groups. Low key, fun and relaxed for a stress-free wedding day.

I work across Islington, Westminster and Hackney and am recommended by many of the leading North London wedding venues.

Are you getting married at Islington Town Hall?

Islington Town Hall is an ever-popular location for couples who want to get married in North London. I’ve worked there many times as a local wedding photographer and this venue is one of my favourites due to the impressive building and location on Upper Street.

Islington Town Hall Wedding Photography

As an Islington Town Hall Wedding Photographer, my documentary style is relaxed and laid-back. I like to make couples feel relaxed and take photographs that capture emotions and special moments without disrupting the flow of the day.

I typically cover whole day weddings from bridal and/or groom preparations through to the first dance and cutting the cake in the evening. For a London wedding, this typically means working at various locations during the wedding day. There are so many classic moments including walking down the aisle, the vows, exchanging rings as well as having fun with your guests and the wedding speeches later in the day.

The Town Hall is one of the wedding venues that is ideal to work in as a professional photographer. There are many backdrops that are ideal for wedding photos due to the impressive marble staircase, natural light from the distinctive stained glass windows, and art deco period details such as an ornate fireplace or vaulted ceiling in the council chamber.

The beautiful art deco facade is ideal for group shots with you and your wedding guests before you go to your wedding reception at the Islington Assembly Rooms or one of the nearby pubs such as the Drapers Arms.

The History Of Islington Town Hall

Islington Town Hall is a Grade I listed building that was built between 1922 and 1930 in a neoclassical style. The Town Hall is an iconic location and it makes perfect sense that London couples would want to get married there.

Islington Town Hall is located on fashionable Upper Street which is the location for trendy cafes, bars and boutiques. The most important rooms were originally the council chamber towards the front, facing Upper Street and the Mayor’s Parlour which faced out over the back of the building.

The building was used as local government offices until 1983 but now the Town Hall is used as a wedding venue and for events.

Islington Town Hall Weddings

For anyone looking to have a London wedding, Islington Town Hall is the perfect place. Catering for civil ceremonies this North London registrar’s office is host to hundreds of wedding ceremonies every year.

There are three ceremony rooms available at the Town Hall – the grand Council Chamber, the light and airy Room 99 or the Statutory Room for more smaller weddings (which is only available to Islington Residents). The Mayor’s Parlour is also an option for intimate weddings. All locations are stunning and the size of your wedding party and requirements will decide what is the best room for you.

If you are planning a wedding on a Saturday, then you had better book well in advance due to the popularity of the venue for newly engaged couples in the capital.

Recent Islington Town Hall Weddings

I’ve worked at this venue many times and have featured a number of weddings in my blog. You can read them all here on my Islington Town Hall blogs page or click the links below to see an individual wedding.

There are many local pubs, restaurants and functions rooms within a short walk of your wedding reception. Islington Assembly Rooms is attached to the Town Hall and has the capacity for over 500 people if required. Local restaurant Frederick’s is a very popular place for a wedding breakfast and evening reception where I am also a recommended Wedding Photographer.

Award-Winning London Documentary Wedding Photographer

My work as a London wedding photographer has been recognised by the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). My documentary wedding photography style and down to earth approach allow me to capture images of your wedding day. To take the best photos, I like to be in the right place at the right time without getting in your way.

Formal posing isn’t really my style but I’m happy to take some group photos with confetti and some portraits of you as newlyweds alongside my candid photographs of the guests and bridal party.

You can view my images on my portfolio page and read about recent weddings I’ve covered in North London in my blog.
