London socially distanced wedding 2020

St. Bartholomew The Great Church in Smithfield was the venue for my first socially distanced London wedding of 2020. I have photographed a number of wonderful weddings at St. Bartholomews Church. This was my first socially distanced London wedding. The dark, medieval church located next to Smithfield Market has made provision for weddings in the Covid-19 era.

The main difference in St. Barts is the beautiful dark wood pews that once stood are now individual chairs spaced 2 meters apart. The pen used to sign to register is sanitised before being passed to the various signatories. Other than these two changes a Socially Distanced Wedding at St.Bartholomews is much the same as a wedding at any other time – beautiful and timeless.

The balcony provides a wonderful view of this ancient church. I like to position myself on this balcony for either the entrance of the bride or the exit newly minted Mr & Mrs. Angela and her super cute bridesmaids walked down the aisle – 2 meters apart. John was waiting at the alter ( with a Bishop, no less) looking super dapper in full morning suit. The service was beautiful with full mass and communion. Although the Bishop was not able to actually ‘tie the knot’, the symbolic gesture of holding the bride and grooms hands the wedding was unaffected by Covid-19.

If you are planning your own wedding and would like to discuss your plans in light of Covid-19 then feel free to drop me a line.
